Diyani Dewasurendra stammt aus Velden in Kärnten und ist ausgebildete Allgemeinmedizinerin. Sie hat außerdem ein Notarztdiplom und psychotherapeutische Schulungen absolviert. Die Kärntnerin schreibt in ihrer Freizeit gerne, unter anderem für ihren privaten Blog.

Für einen Einsatz mit Ärzte ohne Grenzen hat sie sich entschieden, um dort tätig zu sein, wo Hilfe wirklich notwendig ist und Menschen medizinische, soziale, psychologische und andere Arten von Unterstützung brauchen. Bei ihrem ersten Einsatz freut sie darauf, etwas Gutes zu tun und essentielle medizinische Hilfe leisten zu können.

Have you ever been abroad for a significant length of time or on a humanitarian mission before?
This is my 2nd mission with MSF. I am passionate traveller in my spare time

Why did you decide to go on mission with MSF?
Medicine lacks soul and heart when not practiced for those in need

What do you value most about MSF?
I value the charter to its fullest. I am whole heartedly believing in assisting people without discrimination

What are you looking forward to most on your (next) mission?
New challenges, deeper knowledge in treating HIV patients and being with like minded

Is there anything that you take along to every mission?
My Kindle, my journal, some films, lots of music

What are you passionate about and how do you like to spend your free time?
I love writing, started watercolour painting again. When ever I need to be on my own I shield behind a book

What is your most unforgettable experience in the field?
It was one of my last visits to a unofficial camp of Syrian refugees in northern Lebanon when a small girl came running directly into my hands as if she knew me.
