Infectious Diseases Specialist

In 2019, over 70,000 people living with HIV received treatment under direct MSF care; a further 74,000 people received treatment in programmes supported by MSF. 

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the biggest global health crises. Killing 1.4 million people in 2019, TB is the world’s deadliest infectious disease (WHO). 

Your role as an Infectious Diseases Specialist Doctor varies depending on the project, ranging from setting up a programme to evaluating existing medical activities or conducting operational research.

As an HIV/TB specialist working with MSF, your main responsibility will be the improvement of care for patients with HIV and/or TB from diagnostics, to treatment and retention in care at health centre, clinic, and community levels. 

Therefore, your job will be to ensure 

• Implementation and evaluation of treatment protocols available for HIV, TB, hepatitis C and B  
• proper diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for patients with Kaposi’s sarcoma undergoing chemotherapy  
• referral of patients in need of psychological support to the psychosocial department 
• diagnosis of therapeutic failure, opportunistic infections 
• initiation of antiretroviral therapy 
• regular ward rounds, emergency case management and on-calls, if needed 

As a manager, you will be supervising, organising and scheduling shifts and rotations. You will provide continuous training to the multidisciplinary medical team in order to optimise the quality of care and to empower medical staff. 

Data collection, analysis and reporting are an intrinsic part of your role. 

• A completed specialist training in infectious diseases or pneumology 
• OR a completed generalist training, with a focus on HIV and/or (MDR-)TB for at least 3 years  
• A good level of English 
• Availability of at least 6 to 12 months 

• Other language skills (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian) are an asset
